Our hope is that this booklet will help lead you to freedom from sin, which only Jesus can bring. To know Jesus as Lord and Savior is to be "Free in Christ." This without a doubt, is the greatest freedom of all. Please know that you are welcome to grow in your new found freedom with us at Broadway Baptist Church, 2500 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, Kentucky.
We live in a day when slavery is no longer a legal or acceptable way of life. Many years ago in the United States, slavery was a real and difficult issue that was experienced by its Black population. The stories, books, movies, and plays that have conveyed the life of a slave picture for us how demoralizing it must have been. Isn't it great to know that everyone can live free from slavery today!
The fact is, there are still many today who are in need of being set free!
There is a bondage that is still enslaving the lives of people today. It is the bondage of sin. No one has escaped its grasp. This invisible taskmaster shows himself through action that is unpleasing to God.
Have you seen sin reveal its mark in your life?
God reveals two major things in His Word concerning sin.
1. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
2. "The wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
God wants to free us from the bondage of eternal sinful death to eternal life through Jesus.
THE FOUNDATION OF FREEDOM
There are two foundations for freedom.
Payment and acceptance of payment.
PAYMENT
In the Civil War many gave their lives for the freedom of slaves.
It is for this purpose that Jesus came, died on the cross, and rose again! He gave His life that mankind might be free from sin.
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom." Mark 10:45
ACCEPTING PAYMENT!
Although the ransom for sin has been paid, many still walk under its slavery today.
The key is accepting the truth of God's Word.
THE LIBERATING TRUTH CONCERNING FREEDOM!
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
"Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the light no one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
The truth is, accepting the testimony of scripture will save you from the penalty of sinful separation from God.
Romans 10:9-11
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. [11] As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
Because of God's provision through His Son Jesus, freedom from the bondage of sin has become a simple choice. The choice is yours.
Would you like to receive salvation from sin and eternal life through Jesus? If so, pray a prayer something like this:
"Dear Lord Jesus, I admit I have sinned, like all others. I believe your death, burial and resurrection is God's payment for the penalty of my sin. I accept the forgiveness from sin and eternal life you offer. I commit my heart and life to you!"
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1
